Well, this is my first post, so I may as well make it formal:
My name is Eric Laycock, and I will be going to Tacna (Peru) for a whole year. I am an exchange student with the Rotary Youth Exchange (Program). I live in District 7040, a region encompassing Nunavut, Eastern Ontario, Western Québec, and Northern New York State.
I will be leaving in August 2011 (this August), and staying for 12 months until next August (August 2012). But this is only possible with the help of:
a) My sponsoring club (the Rotary Club of Ottawa): they sponsor me (hence the name), paying for a lot of the expenses. I am very grateful to them. Special thanks to Peter Houliston, the club chair, and to Julie Cugalj and Andre Bourdon for driving me to Cornwall!
b) My host club in (the Rotary Club of Tacna in District 4300): they're hosting me, and they are responsible for organizing my host families, etc. I don't know anyone there by name yet, but hopefully I will soon!
c) Joe Fontes - my country correspondent. He's the bridge between me and my host country. He's a great guy, really nice, and he provides a lot of the information I need. Thanks Joe!
d) Françine Allard and Susan Kolar; I have been in touch with these two since August 2010 - they were the ones who helped orientate me and get me started on applying for the youth exchange program. Thanks!
e) Everyone involved in the orientations at Cornwall: I don't want to mention everyone in case I forget someone, but thank you all for being so kind and helpful with the whole process!
f) My parents - For, you know, helping pay for the plane tickets/organize me/drive me everywhere/feed me.... (the list goes on and on)
If it hadn't been for you guys, I wouldn't have gone very far. Thanks for all your help!
(ps. the background is a Google Earth simulation of the Tacna region)
